Sculpt II

Your constant encouragement and comments (even those that leave me scratching my head) keep my amateurish attempts going. Thank you, one and all.

Atomized

Apologies for my abrupt disappearance the past few weeks. I was caught in the knots of daily existence which silenced the instinct for whimsy. Atomized it.

There is a lot to catch up on, going by some of your comments (belated question- what is 'Darkroom?') and I hope to slowly regain the momemtum. Please forgive my rudeness in not responding.

Theme for this spread might well be that the trivial realities of daily life are inescapable, dissipating and ultimately atomizing.

Stark exhibit

If these pictures were not taken by oneself, would the indictment of narcissism be less grave? Jimmy, what would you deign to appoint as a worthy "real subject?" What is your reality? Is it the external world according to your 5 senses and id, or do you allow the inclusion of the metaphysical realm?

Just as I do not deny this can be read in the light of narcissism, my work is the objectification of self as I see it. Velma could be any female on the street brushing past your shoulders, bearing the similar physical traits, Hence, my overarching idea on which my rules are based is this- " I am I, I am private, I am separate, I am an individual, and I am not."

You might be interested (that is, if it doesn't put you to sleep :P ) in broadening your perspective of what makes a "real subject," or object, so to speak, by considering the Indian Vedanta schools of thought on the Self (Atman/ Brahman) vs. the World (Maya), where there is nothing more real than the Self, if we are so lucky as to transcend it.

My mother's cheongsam, or fleur et derriere

Flowers are for Moox, the butt shots (well, side view still counts) are for Chris.

To clarify, this fotopage is created with 2 rules that have set a high level of boundaries on what I am allowed to include as footage:

Rule 1- The fotopage is based on the projections of my interior life, which is located within my bedroom measuring little more than 2 prison cells, and the odd inanimate objects or intangibles that define this inner state of existence.

Rule 2: Anonymity. No faces.

Working within these restrictions enforces a kind of discipline on me to explore every detail to its death. Hence the fixation on what happens to catch my curiosity. It can be frustrating, and I look towards you to offer me suggestions on working around these rules....In the meantime, I continue to obsessively experiment!

It's a lazy day, so I'm just playing with the negative effect on some old footage.

Scarlet

Manifestations of Scarlet- more than just a shade of red.

The word 'scarlet' conjures up ideas beyond its being a colour. For scarlet is unapologetic in its bold sensuality, it has the mystique of the forbidden and sinful as in The Scarlet Letter.

If passion were a colour. it would be scarlet.
